Overhead Mounts for Every Budget

I’ve been meaning to make this a YouTube video for literal years. Dropping the links here so I can easily share the information without making a big piece of “content.”

There may be better options out there, but here is what I have used personally.

Cheapest

DIY PVC Version

Add a phone holder to make it mobile compatible. I used one I had, but it’s similar to this.

One benefit is this one can hold an actual SLR camera if made to the specs in the tutorial. I’ve also used longer pipes and made mine larger, but sometimes that requires weighing it down a bit.

Easiest

Canvas Tripod Lamp

This one is pricey, but no doubt it’s the easiest. A weight is built in and there’s even a lamp.

See it in action on Instagram.

Best Height

C Stand

If you want a super high view for recipes or tutorials neither of the above options may work. It seems over the top and takes a massive amount of space, but your best bet for a nice high view is a photography C stand. I don’t have a preferred brand. I believe I got Neewer from Amazon. I’m upgrading to this Manfrotto attachment soon because I don’t like the one I have. You’ll also need photography sand bags for this and a lot of space to store it. I keep it permanently set up in the studio.
